Governor Strickland's Energy Plan

The Seven Principles of the Ohio Energy Compact

Governor Strickland placed his call for an Ohio Energy Compact in the context of the impending discussion of how Ohio electric utilities should be structured.  He called on all stakeholders to set aside self-interest and work together to achieve the seven broad goals of the Ohio Energy Compact.  Those are:

  • Establish a foundation of transparency and accountability to restore lost faith in both government and utilities.

  • Put customers on equal footing with utilities.

  • Balance the protection of regulation and the opportunities of competitive markets.

  • Make energy efficiency a central element in addressing electric regulation.

  • Stimulate renewable energy consumption in order to attract advanced energy investment.

  • Modernize Ohio’s electric infrastructure.

  • Take into account environmental issues, including global warming.
